Some orange showed up in Dunsmuir so PhotoBob and my sons gave chase. It's rough having so little sunlight but I think these came out pretty good.

I was going to say that Bob never takes me photo chasing either but that's not true, he took me just yesterday.

What I have learned: PhotoBob is the Chuck Norris of railfan photographers :-)

Love those Rock Island style "circle tri-lights"--refreshing change from the hooded things!

This looks like a military move for the BNSF--why didn't it go via the Inside Gateway? Anyone know??

I thought this location would have snow this time off year?

This seems to be the usual route for these trains. Not sure why they wouldn't stay on the BNSF the whole way but I'm sure there is a reason.

On a typical year, yes. We were exploring the old steam-era tunnel at Shasta Lake in tee shirts yesterday!

Pic. #3, what a Great shot! Kind of surprised to see those type of signals on an ex-SP line out in California. Also cool to see BNSF power passing the Dunsmuir depot.

There are scattered installations of those signals in California. The biggest group can be found on the Cal-P (Martinez Sub), Niles Sub, and Coast Sub between San Jose and Sacramento. Basically where the Capital Corridor trains upgraded the tracks in the 90's.

The video even shows all the foamers (us) getting shots at the depot :-)

The video didn't quite catch the whole train - 3699'

Are these potential future railroaders? The trains and the technology are different
but the scene is the same as it was about 54 years ago watching Bob's favorite
Daylight PA's with my Dad. Those little guys look really into it...
A day that will sure make for much better memories than the latest XBOX game!

Very nice photos. Great contrast with the BNSF units and the trees.
The sun doesn't shine much in the canyon this time of year, the low light
looks great!

My oldest says he wants to be an engineer, we'll see if that sticks with him. For now, he is a model railroader and railfan!
We don't have any gaming consoles at home and that's the way we like it :-) They keep busy with sports and playing trains in a variety of ways.

Could be a UP train with the BNSF power running through...

That is exactly what you are seeing. The train originated at Fort Lewis and interchanged to UP at Lake Yard.
