Light engine move south end of BNSF's Denver Diesel Shop. No cars on the drawbar.

Was it moving forward or reverse?

Picked a point or the frog, rolled a
rail!

I'd say it split the switch judging from the marks in the ballast.

Running through the wrong side of a switch and springing the points open, with only the front truck past the points, then backing up will result in something like this.

I see what appears to be a rolled rail... it may be an optical illusion but then again, it looks like a rail tipped over a bit there.

a sharp flange that needed to be trued can also cause the wheel set to ride up a flat point but this is all brand new stuff through the interlocking

You need to post the day before pic of the new track being installed. ;-) Congrats on IOTD!

That was a result of the derailed truck. it derailed before it rolled the rail over, the wheels on this side of the truck were pulled through/over the rail causing it to roll.

Yes. You can have SD40's going three different directions at the same time. (Don't ask me how I know)

Putting the power on our train at west end of the Emporia yard. "take them ahead, that'll do, back about ten to the joint". I came out of a track, partially onto the work lead to clear the switch behind the rear unit. I was watching the mirror for hand signals, not looking ahead, and when I stopped, I had run through the only rigid switch on the lead. It was under the rear unit. I reversed, and went ripping back toward the train. Funny things started to happen when the rear truck of the middle unit went one direction, pulling the rear unit off, the front truck went the other way, and the rear truck on the unit I was on just dropped straddling the switch. Three on the ground = 20 Brownies.

Had an SP 9300 do that once, the power contactors for the #2 and 5 axles dropped out while in reverse and they decided to go forward. That made for quite a show. Also on the 1810 that was used in Under Siege 2 was running in reverse out of Saugus and did the same thing, normal position of the relay (de-energized) was forward so we through sparks from the #4 axle to the front of the lead unit. Load meter went from around 500 amp to buried real quick and the engine grunted down like it was pulling the Queen Mary.
