When Worlds Collide
Author: funnelfan

I'm not really an avid bird watcher, but when the occasion arises for a photo of opportunity, I will take it. Such as it was yesterday when I stopped short of the Lance Hill Road crossing of the BNSF south of Cheney, WA to wait on a westbound coal train. It was then that I noticed a Red Tail Hawk perched atop the far gate. At first the hawk was ignoring me looking away, but when I started making sounds like an injured animal that quickly changed. After a short while the hawk realized I was playing games with him and he flew away with a rather annoyed look.

Before long my coal train showed up. If the hawk had stuck around, I would have been tempted to try and photograph him dealing with a suddenly moving crossing gate.

Great hawk shots! I caught your coal in the backyard at 407pm.

I was hoping for a repeat performance of the Amtrak magpie.

Ted ---
Those are BEAUTIFUL  photos of the train!  The snow in
the sun is soooo pretty!  I LOVE your photo of the hawk soaring.
VERY well done!

(I LOVE birds!)

[That was a pretty good movie, wasn't it?  "Klatu murada nikto."]

Great photos all Ted. And especially with the Hawk on the crossing arm.

Ol' signal maintainer Hawk flagging that 6.32.2.

That's a lucky shot and beautiful bird.

Nice shots.  That hawk would have been more annoyed had the gates gone down...

Those birds are smart! They will wait for an approaching train to scare up a critter then move in for dinner.
