OT: Blue Canyon weather update
Author: bradleymckay

Current conditions: 31 degrees with heavy snow.  Precipitation last 72 hours:  10.66 inches.

As stated by John B. in the thread below there is a Blizzard Warning for the north central Sierra Nevada Mountains above 4500 ft, covering from roughly Quincy/Portola south to just north of Yosemite NP.  For you skiers who like Mammoth Mountain, yes, Mammoth is included in the Blizzard Warning.  Up to 6 feet of snow above 6000 ft is likely in some areas.

We once tried to cross-country ski right after 6 feet at Mammoth, but it was too soon.  We sank to our hips after every step, it wasn't consolidated enough.  Our cars looked so cute, indiscernible in the snow, until the manager said the plow guy was not responsible if he couldn't see our car.  We took a quick picture, then got the snow off of them.

Truckee CHP just reported an avalanche near Summit.  Not sure what else it's effecting, but things are going from bad to worse.

So for this uninformed easterner how much more needs to fall before the Rotaries are necessary?
