Golden Fuel Tank and Trucks on UP GEVO?

Took these photos last Friday (Jan 6) in Montclair CA of an eastbound Z train. At first I thought the fuel tank was painted gold, but of course realized it was more like the engine got into something.

Curious if anyone know what this might be?

It's just powdery dirt that stuck to an oily or wet surface.    Common on the Sunset or desert routes, especially after trackwork has been done and access roads have recently been driven on.

Great numbers on cab, in '78 hired out on Santa Fe, in '79 went into engine service, nice catch.
