Here's the last part in this series, consisting of photos taken on Sunday 9/18 all on the Washington side (BNSF Fallbridge Sub), starting at the Chamberlain Lake Rest Area west of Lyle, and then moving to the east end of Cooks siding.  Here's a link to the previous Part 6: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4199391

1) 2:57 PM: a westbound manifest is seen on the east side of the Rest Area between Tunnels #9 and #8, led by ES44C4 #7156, along with C44-9W #4711, and KCS ES44AC #4817.

2) 2:59 PM: moving to the west side of the Rest Area, the manifest is seen entering Tunnel #7.

6) 3:48 PM: like the sixth photo from Thursday in Part 5, this is a view looking east up the Gorge through Rowena Gap towards The Dalles (center background), with the town of Lyle in the left background.  In the left foreground is seen the west portal of Tunnel #9.  The high cliffs above Interstate 84 and the UP's Portland Sub on the Oregon side are seen in the right background.

7) 4:14 PM: next was a westbound loaded grain unit, led by ES44DC #7488, along with ES44C4 #8071, and C44-9W #5438 (DPU).  The grain unit is seen on the berm which separates Chamberlain Lake from the River, and is about to enter the east portal of Tunnel #10, which is located directly beyond Tunnel #9 seen in the previous photo.

8) 4:15 PM: a view of the #7488 about to enter the east portal of Tunnel #8.

9) 4:16 PM: a view of the grain unit in between Tunnels #9 and #8.

10) 5:01 PM: moving to the east end of Cooks siding at Cook(s)*, WA, next is an eastbound manifest, led by ES44C4 #6587, along with C44-9W #5035, and SD40-2's #1794 and #1654**.

*BNSF calls it Cooks, and it is otherwise known as Cook.

**#1794 was built in July 1980 as BN #8167, to BNSF #8167, to #8091, to #1794.  #1654 was built in June 1978 as BN #7056, to BNSF #7056, to #1654.

11) 5:47 PM: the westbound loaded grain unit previously seen at Lyle is seen again at Cooks entering the siding.

12) 5:48 PM: passing the signals for westbound movement.

13) 5:49 PM: as this train arrived, the drizzle started up as the next weather system makes it way further up the Gorge from the west.

14) 5:50 PM: a view of DPU #5438.

15) 6:09 PM: the grain unit was taking the siding to meet the eastbound #28 Empire Builder, led by P42DC #83, seen here passing the signals for eastbound movement.

16) 6:09 PM: passing the signals for westbound movement.

17) 6:18 PM: now we'll follow the Builder towards its next station stop at Bingen, WA, which is across from Hood River, OR, and next to White Salmon, WA (White Salmon sits up on the hillside while Bingen is down below next to the River).  The station is listed in the Amtrak timetable as Bingen-White Salmon.

Last Three:

18) 6:20 PM: the Builder has just negotiated a curve on the west side of Underwood, WA, where the White Salmon River enters the Columbia.

19) 6:26 PM: the Builder has completed its station stop in Bingen, and is beginning to move east again, towards the next station at Wishram.

20) 6:26 PM: sleeper #32065 brings up the markers on this cloudy evening.

Locals here in the Gorge area  uniformly refer to it as "Cook's Landing", a name dating from (pre railroad) steamboat days.
