A Weekend on Tehachapi Pass
Author: SCUfoamer

Here are a few more favorites from our epic weekend. We stayed in an AirBnB in Bear Valley. I didn't expect it would be so far from the tracks, but it did have a spectacular view of Monolith. I tried to tailor this trip so that my girlfriend would be happy. She wanted to hike, be lazy, and read while I did my thing. I figured that she at least needed to watch a train climb the famous Tehachapi Loop. Then I figured we could both hike and be lazy at Bealville. The weather was mid 70's and partly cloudy all weekend. Couldn'tve asked for better weather! I will continue to post as I edit!

1. During a 4 hour work window, DS 54 sneaks one west and one east bound BNSF Z train through the loop around noon. This is the Eastbound climbing the loop and looking at it's rear end exiting Woodford Siding. This is Jess' first ever train seen on the loop!

2. I knew that there was a service road that went from Bealville all of the way to Tunnel 2. I got a little ambitious and thought we could do the entire hike and back! I was wrong. We made it exactly to where the end of the train is at in this photo. A BNSF manifest climbs it's way to Bealville in the afternoon. I had to fight off poor lighting in this photo, but it is cool to see a bit of the railroad that is not often photographed. Luckily we began our hike right after a work window was lifted. I shot 6 East bounds over the course of a 3 hour hike.

3. The view from the back porch of our AirBnB - Sunrise over monolith. Unfortunately, the train is heading East, but the butt end can be seen going under Hwy 58 in the back ground.

Excellent.   A great place to explore and a good time of the year to do it.

Actually, the east end of Woodford siding is well out of the photo to the left.

Number 3 is a GREAT photo, EVEN if it is already out of the siding at Woodford.

Yup.  Cannot read it unless it punctuated , spelled correctly and sentence construction is absolutely perfect.
