Kyle RR 3099 West passed Wind Farm
Author: cozephyr

Kyle RR 3099, SD45T-2, Kyle 5004, MK50-3 (1st trip west to Limon, CO) ex-Utah Railway 5004, and Kyle 3098 passed wind farm east of Burlington, Colorado, April 12, 2017. Record 2016 grain crop is still being moved by the Kyle Railroad in early 2017.

Nice to catch the Utah again! Need to get the Kyle run in Colorado.

How many trains a day run on the Kyle Railroad? Is the freight base primarily seasonal grain traffic? Does the Kyle RR have trackage rights into Denver on the UP? Too bad the Rock Island closed the line east of Lincoln as it would give the Kyle a connection to the Iowa Interstate.

Notice how the Utah units are sandwhiched in the consist, and not leading. The Utah MK's have desktop controls and a very restricted view from the engineers seat.

How many trains a day run on the Kyle Railroad?

Two or three trains per day depending on crew availability. Phillipsburg has a switcher assigned. April 12 I found eastbound train tied down on west side of Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Is the freight base primarily seasonal grain traffic?

Yes, grain traffic is primary traffic on the Kyle.

Does the Kyle RR have trackage rights into Denver on the UP?

No Kyle trains operating west of Limon, CO. UP interchanges with Kyle at Limon.

The last time I was out there I took a Night Sky Photography class. The wind mills in the background provided some excellent subjects... That's the Milky Way running lower right to upper left. Interesting country out there!
