UP Engineering Special in the Rain.
Author: sp1827ml

I was following all the great posts on the UP Engineering Special and saw all the great looks as it passed various locations on the west coast. I thought I'd get out and capture some photos of the special as it passed through my neighborhood. Unfortunately the weather proved uncooperative but it is a beautiful train and worth the effort to photograph. Here's my take of the UP Engineering Special as it passed through my neighborhood on the eastern slope of Donner Pass.

1) Here the train is passing East Truckee, MP 208 in the rain.
2) As the train passed MP 229, Verdi NV, the rain was joined by a thin layer of fog.
3) As I headed east, I thought I might get a head of the rain showers. But as soon as I reached this location, MP 234 Mogul NV, the rain showers caught up with me.

Great shots of the chase. Brilliant colors in the subdued light.

Mark, those are great shots, light had been something short of marginal.

And that my friends is the difference between a Photographer and a Picture Taker.
A photographer works with conditions they're given.
A picture takes complains about the conditions...

Wow!! Thanks for the compliments. I've never thought of myself as a photographer. I'm just a guy who enjoys taking photos of the trains.
