UP Nampa Sub Mixed Intermodal Train
Author: philhoov

I caught this interesting eastbound mixed intermodal on the UP Nampa Sub this afternoon, led by UP #8227.
Thanks to the friendly crew who gave me a nice horn salute at the beginning of the video!
I shot it between Nampa and Kuna, Idaho with an interesting mix of single-stack. double-stack, and TOFC with many companies represented.
----------
Was this one of the re-routed trains resulting from the Sims, CA damaged bridge incident?

Thanks, nice video. Guessing, looks like the ZBRLCB.

The "B" means the second section? Does that mean multiple ZBRLC's depart each day?

LC = LATC (Los Angeles Trailer and Container intermodal facility).

Oops. Typed "B" but was thinking "D" for detour. Brooklyn to Los Angeles LATC yard.

If that's headed to LA, then it must be a detour due to the Sims, CA bridge damage?
Will it go down the LASL from Salt Lake City?

Phil, I think so. Heard here in another thread that some of the Brooklyn-LA Z trains would be going thru SLC-Yermo-LA while the northbound Z's are going the BNSF Inside Gateway. At the same time some of the normal LA&SL traffic to/from Chicago is being re-routed to the Sunset-Golden State Rte apparently due to available crews.

Hoghead Mike, here on TO, reported working a Pocatello-Nampa reroute train a couple of days ago.
I may head out toward Kuna/Nampa this afternoon and see if anything's coming thru.

Great stuff, and thanks for the video post. The I-5 Zs always have plenty of Market Transport trailers on board, so those trains are easy to identify. No idea on the two DSV trailers as I've never heard of that company before.

I also noted all of the domestic containers on that train, which is more than I have seen on those trains in quite some time. Looks like UP is finally starting to build that business up between Portland and LA - long overdue - especially with all of the I-5 tunnel work the railroad did 8 years ago to handle the double stacks. Maybe UP is finally getting serious about that business now.

I have a few questions on this video.

One, is that actually a detouring I-5 corridor train? Is FedEx Ground a normal user of those trains. I've never seen that much business from them before on a train, or are those just empty repo trailers for them, heading back south?

Which leads me to my second question; only two units for that train?!?! Seemed like a pretty good sized train for just 2 units if it was hot?

They used to be UTi.

DSV is a european co that purchased UTI who already purchased Market Transport
a couple of years back. Get used to seeing the name, since Market's trucks are
already wearing DSV signs on the doors.

So DSV is the same as Market Transport? Didn't UTi buy Market a few years ago?

Okay, I missed this before I posted the query above to SPMemphisFreight. That answers my question, thanks.

Yes, definitely the ZBRLC, but a bit smaller than usual, even with the domestic boxes on board. I counted 2 Market Transport trailers plus 2 from DSV, so not a lot of Market on that train which is unusual. No idea if the FedEx stuff is loads or empties.

Definitely an underpowered train, but maybe UP figures that since the train is going to be so long in getting to LA with the rerouting, no justification for having more power on there. Definitely looks like a bunch of the 'regulars' as far as truck lines, are missing from that train.

Does anyone know what the schedule is for this re-routes? Not necessarily the "time", but rather how many hours on the re-route? That would be one indicator of whether or not some of the business is going OTR until Sims is fixed.
