Excellent framing and composure. Thanks for posting these. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 05/01/17 21:22 Re: Hinkle trains in Pleasant View Author: FiestaFoamer Lovely shots. A couple of questions arise:
1) Has the symbol changed from MHKRO to MHKSC? I heard MHKSC called out over the radio some last year -- not sure whether that was a short-time thing, or whether it's been changed back, etc. 2) Any idea what gets carried in those beat-up MWCX and INTX hoppers? They are mainstays on this train, and occasionally they are patched ICG hoppers, etc. From Hinkle, they seem to come into Portland on the MHKBA, I've noticed, but I'm not sure what the final destination is. Trains running between Hinkle and the two major SLC yards is a mixed bag. From my observations, it depends on the amount of congestion within Roper Yard. If the yard is at (or near) capacity, they'll run the train and terminate at North Yard. Other times, particularly if traffic is slow, they'll run all the way through to Roper. From what I can tell, most (if not all) the SLC-Hinkle trains originate from Roper. SLC has a switching job called the YSC60 which ferries cars between the two major yards if necessary. A lot of the cars from the MHKSC get turned and sent out on the MWCNP/MNPWC (both of which bypass Roper), therefore they switch in North Yard.
