Western Railroad Discussion > Rippity, Rip, Rap, Riprap Train On The MoveDate: 05/17/17 15:11 Rippity, Rip, Rap, Riprap Train On The Move Author: walstib A a loaded riprap train rolls north through Carpinteria this afternoon, headed for Gaviota.
The train features a handful of ballast hoppers up front, and 24 side-dump cars loaded with riprap. This is the train's second time bringing rocks to the coast line, where damage from February's big storm is still being repaired. The riprap train first came on the scene last month, and hung around a week or two before heading off for a fresh load of material. It typically ties down at Gaviota at night. Most recently, crews have been working on the 10-mile stretch of tracks from Gaviota south to Capitan. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! That "Storm Zilla" mega storm of Jan and Feb 2017 did make a big mess of things. Big props to UPRR for keeping the former SP Coast Line in TOP shape. ----Daniel Date: 05/17/17 16:11 Re: Rippity, Rip, Rap, Riprap Train On The Move Author: Margaret_SP_fan A great catch, sir, and a really nice video --
well-lit and well-composed. And I didn't see any graffiti on any of those cars -- wonderful! That is a really nice-looking train, partly because of that. And that palm tree is a prefect California touch. I love your thread title -- very creative and funny! Not surprised at all that it is taking this long to repair the damage those big storms caused. Glad the UP is bothering to keep up this line, which they do not use all that often. (Their MoW crews had other places that are much more important to the UP to repair than this area.)
