Into the Storm
Author: mg8711

I was just out and about taking pictures of clouds the other night when one of them morphed into a thunderstorm. Reportedly it would go on to produce some big hail. Upon shooting this storm I heard a distant horn on the faithful KP...a drive east to a more clear spot and the following scene unfolded before me, with other people shooting pictures of the storms as well.

1) UP 4499 has an eastbound ARLNSR autorack train in tow as it heads towards Kansas City, splitting photographers at Airport Road east of Wamego, KS, it's apparent this crews thus far easy trip may get a bit bumpy and long...The time is 10 PM sharp on June 14th, 2017

Thanks for looking!

Great shot! Did you use a flash to illuminate the side of the unit?

Very nice -- and quite interesting.

It's a combination of maybe a five second extended exposure, with a pretty powerful flash hand triggered. . .

Right??

That sure is an interesting cloud formation and also the lighting in the cloud. Or was it lightning in the cloud? A keeper for sure.

GREAT photo!

Intense looking thunderstorm probably fueled by the evening/night time low level jet...
