CCT Gensets working Stockton/Lodi
Author: pismopete

Visited my son Wednesday in East Bay; it wasn't hot enough there so we decided to go over to the Valley where it was 111-112 degrees and chase trains! Caught them switching the Port of Stockton just outside their office there. Then went by the carbarn in downtown Stockton and saw them just leaving with the Lodi Job, so we gave chase up to Lodi and watched them switch there.

Yes, I'm sure the SW1500s are insurance! But they all were working pretty hard.

CCT has four SW1500s, 1501-1504; they number everything according to horsepower. Gensets are 2100 hp and 1200 hp.

Gensets working the train to/from Lodi; I think Credence Clearwater Revival made a song about that.

That is actually a MP15. The easiest way to tell the difference is by looking at the trucks. SW1500s have AAR or Flexicoil trucks. MP15s have Blomberg trucks. It is appears to be common for railroads to number their locomotives according to their horsepower.

NO, look more closely at the trucks, they are flexicoils; ex- SP/UP SW1500s!

I was referring to the NWP locomotive.

Didn't Fogerty sing, "Stuck because the genset wont load again"?

Will the real locomotive please pull forward. Hope the genset had enough power to run the air conditioning.

Are those Brookville gensets? If so the 2101 might be a former Maine Central GP38.

All the CCT Switchers are SW 1500's and the reason they were numbers 1501 to 1504 is from my old WP days when we had SW1500 and yes the reason is due to the HP, so are the gensets and yes the 2101 is a Brookville and was an old MEC GP38 used as the base for the genset

Correct, and the 1200s were built on new frames fabricated by Brookville, IIRC
