Smoky afternoon on Donner Pass

The smoke from the Detwiler fire was still heavy on Donner yesterday but I still stopped to take a few at MP 176 and East Norden. Enjoy!!

1. 5775 West exits tunnel 36.
2. The same train entering the 738' long tunnel 35.
3. The 5258 east helper on a no-grainer exiting tunnel 36 with Old Man Mountain barely visible in the background due to the smoke.

Just a few more.

1. The helper from the west bound manifest ducks into tunnel 35.
2. The 5448 another East bound no-grainer crosses under the Sugar Bowl gondola line at East Norden.
3. The 5258 just about to enter the Big Hole.

Nice photos from Smoky Donner Pass. We must have crossed paths at some point during the afternoon.

1) I was planning on catching UP 5448 exiting Tunnel 35. As you can see, I didn't quite make it in time.
2-3) A couple of looks at the eastbound empty grain trains a short time later, from Glenshire.

Hi,
You did not happen to get a photo or two of Amtrak #6 yesterday?
I was on board but still managed to enjoy the trip over Donna Pass.
