Western Railroad Discussion > EMD Tier 4 power over DonnerDate: 07/21/17 10:41 EMD Tier 4 power over Donner Author: ATSF5964 On a railfanning expedition to Donner Pass yesterday afternoon, I caught the UP 7660 East leading a lengthy drag freight out of Long Ravine over Cape Horn. The second unit was the UP 3016, which is only the second Tier 4 I have seen, and the first in UP paint. For what it's worth, I could not detect much difference in sound between it and the SD70 trailing. Afterwards, I caught the same train a second time above the American River Canyon.

I spied your no-grainer on the drive west from Soda Springs, just as I was beginning to emerge from under the pall, and thought "no way am I going back into that stuff"! There was a lot more smoke at Casa Loma yesterday morning. If you squint enough, you can just make out the outline of the mountains above the containers.

Not complaining and I'm sure it varies a lot with location. At just a few seconds after one minute through the video are several Norfolk Southern boxes. (I don't know the right terms for them: maybe 70 feet long, extra high, double doors.) Any idea where they come from and where they're going and what they haul?
