Washington & Idaho Railway in the Ditch

Washington & Idaho Railway has a BNSF Shuttle train in the ditch between Plaza and Spangle, WA. I'm not sure, but I think that may be the DPU power on a loaded train. They had washouts and soft roadbed problems here for a long time.

Looks like a bad day in the prairie foothills.

A week ago, a sister railroad, Dakota Southern Railway, derailed 14 cars at 26 mph. The first derailed car was the 25th car in a BNSF shuttle train. Cause was probably a sun kink as the air temperature was 100 degrees.

Went by there today. They have three cars over on their side shoved off the track. The DPU power is back somewhere else. and the headend power and a dozen cars were cut off to clear a crossing.
