Western Railroad Discussion > Brush cutter on the UP Austin SubDate: 07/22/17 12:15 Brush cutter on the UP Austin Sub Author: PALuvR I caught a brush cutter accompanied by a track inspector in the siding at Bergstrom in South Austin (TX) yesterday morning. They were awaiting passage of the NB Amtrak #22. As soon as #22 passed, they moved a bit north just clearing the crossing waiting to get on the main and resume their work. I talked to the track inspector and he said that a train had just hit a vehicle in Round Rock and that no NB trains had departed San Antonio at that time. It was 09:00 and he suggested that I might as well go on home. All I could find out was that a train had indeed hit a pickup in Round Rock with no injuries resulting. Driver said he "thought he could beat the train". WRONG!
1. On time #22 coming around brush cutter and hi-rail at N. Bergstrom 2. Moving toward the north switch to get back on the main 3. Close up. I haven't seen a piece of equipment like this before. Mike Date: 07/23/17 08:32 Re: Brush cutter on the UP Austin Sub Author: SCKP187 Nice catches of all the trains Mike. Haven't seen one of those brush cutters before, only the aftermath--anything to keep down the tree tunnels is appreciated.
