Western Railroad Discussion > Baja California afternoon with the Garcia TurnDate: 09/24/17 13:40 Baja California afternoon with the Garcia Turn Author: erielackawanna Had a friend from NJ visiting and he wanted to head into TJ to shoot the BJ RR. Unfortunately the train left Tijuana pretty late and only went as far as Garcia. Still came away with a few shots I was glad to have.
First image is the train approaching Z Gas. Second image is the train arriving in Garcia (note, all Garcia pics taken with permission to be on the property and while wearing full PPE). Third image is a front-coupled roster of the GP39-3M in BJRR paint. Fifth and sixth images are taken in Tijuana of the return. We tried to beat it to the bridge over the Tijuana River for one more angle, but with bad traffic we only get there in time to watch the train go over our head. When does Haley's comet return?... Hauling one car trains does not give much confidence it will ever happen, heck they can't even get the tunnel portal fixed at the border crossing east of Tecate to allow tourist trains through to generate income on the line. Don't hold your breath! Date: 09/24/17 19:03 Re: Baja California afternoon with the Garcia Turn Author: SCKP187 Great catches. The 3906 is quite a paint job.

Don't hold your breath! The Tunnel 4 East Portal or lack thereof has nothing to do with tourist trains running into Mexico! First off the museum currently can't even run to the border due to the FRA taking about a mile of track out of service due to bad ties, rail and other issues! The museum is having a contractor come in to do the needed track repairs, The bigger issue is the daylighted Tunnel 3, about a half mile south of the border had a partial collapse of the cut, filling in about 2/3 the depth of the cut!! Politics is another issue! This is a great series of photos! Spent many hours operating over this line for SDIV back in 89/90! Mike Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/25/17 09:15 by 2720. |
