Western Railroad Discussion > UP's Sunset Rte - 08/05/17 (Pics/Videos) Pt2

Today's post we have 5 trains from UP's Gila Sub "Sunset Route" from August 05, 2017. I have also added the times of arrival for those that like to see how close each train is to each other. First we have our Empty Military Move, with the (UP 3937) leads a eastbound Empty Military Train which was the (Special-Yermo, CA-Ft. Bliss, TX) at Casa Grande, AZ at Milepost 915.  The consist was the UP 3937, UP 4550. Train arrived at 2017.08.05 @ 6:30 PM.

Next, we have Union Pacific (UP 2538) leading a eastbound Premium Intermodal Train which was the ZLAJX-05 (Premium Intermodal-Los Angeles-Jacksonville, FL) at the same milepost.  The consist was the UP 2538, UP 5814, with DPUs: UP 8746, UP 4666.  Train arrived at 2017.08.05 @ 6:33 PM.

Next, we have Union Pacific (UP 8200) leading a eastbound Premium Intermodal Train which was the ZLAMQ-05 (Premium Intermodal-Los Angeles-Mesquite, TX) back at the same milepost.  The consist was the UP 8200, UP 9056, UP 3993, with DPU: UP 7837.  Train arrived at 2017.08.05 @ 6:44 PM.

Next, we have Union Pacific (UP 8938) leading a westbound Auto Train which was the AGBML-02 (Auto-Gibson Yard/Proviso, IL-Mira Loma) back at MilePost 906 which is CP Bon (SP 906).  The consist was the UP 8938, UP 4047, with DPU: UP 7236.  Train arrived at 2017.08.05 @ 7:24 PM.  The moon looks from above.

Last one for today we have Union Pacific (UP 7946) leading a eastbound Premium Intermodal Train which was the ZLCAI-05 (Premium Intermodal-LATC-Atlanta) at the same location.  The consist was the UP 7946, UP 3876, UP 4584, UP 5412. Train arrived at 2017.08.05 @ 7:40 PM.

Thanks for another NICE series of FAST moving trains. The "Z"'s rolling with gusto along with the fast moving auto train with EMD on the point. I sure like your UP racetrack in Arizona.

Thanks Larry!  Definitely a racetrack with the TrackLimit at 70 MPH!

Great coverage as usual! The Schneider National highway vans are interesting, since I don't believe BNSF even carries many anymore (mostly containers), so those and the CFIs may be more new trailer deliveries, especially if you never see any going west.

That one caught me by surprise as well, since UP has little to no Schneider business these days. New Schneider vans from Mexico being repositioned somewhere would be my guess. Lots of Dart Intermodal and CFI trailers on those trains these days. UP seems to be doing well with its Sunset Route Z trains.

Agree on the Schneiders, gotta be new trailer deliveries. Not sure about CFI but maybe as well.

As to their overall Sunset biz, agree they seem to be doing well. ZLAMQ is running in two sections several days a week, carrying 35-40 trailers some days. All the Z's appear to be carrying a lot more Fed Ex trailers than in the recent past.
