Three brand new engines on UP AGBML
Author: dantat13

Hi all,

Coming home from work this afternoon around 2:30P.M. in Livingston, IL (about an hour) North of Saint Louis, MO on the UP Pana Sub the UP AGBML autorack train came flying through with three brand spanking new SD70AH loco's # 9083, 9085 and DPU: UP 9084 nose out. The engineer even commented on the radio that the engine only had 317 miles. Heads up out West! Train left Saint Louis at 5:00p.m. Westbound.

Are there any TO members who have had a chance to try them out? If so, how do they compare to their GE counterparts?

These aren't Tier 4. They are credit units and are a normal SD70ACe.

Interesting.  How did it get to Pana/St Louis?  Does it carry or pick up a St. Louis block and is thus routed over the C&EI/MP?

Going to make the attempt to find good sun when it comes through the Sunset Route.  Heard it is departing Tucson at 3am on 10/14 with a 1x1 configuration after UP 9085 is dropped off along the way.  Attempting intercept at Shawmut if it is this early.

Hello, not sure if anyone has replied to you yet, but if not:

The train runs on the IHB from Gibson Yard to Dolton Jct. where it gets handed over to the Union Pacific in Dalton, IL. At this point it would now be on the UP Villa Grove sub that runs down to Villa Grove, IL. It crew changes at Villa Grove and then runs down the UP Pana Subdivision from Villa Grove, IL to East St. Louis before crossing the river and running the Jeff City sub. The main reason that it is running this route now is because coal is down so congestion is down crossing the river in St. Louis and it is cheaper to run it via this routing than pay BNSF for their trackage rights.. To my knowledge, no work is done and it is a thru train. Hope this helps. Dan.

Interesting.  This is preferable vs the CNW across Iowa to the RI spine line?  Is this route slow or limited capacity?
