UP 1943 On The Move to New Orleans
Author: TexBob

UP's latest commemorative unit, SD70ACe 1943 didn't hang around San Antonio much after its
official unveiling this afternoon. It was put on a short passenger special, SSAAV-19, which
departed San Antonio just after 5:00 PM.
I was able to catch a shot of it just before 10:00 PM at Dyersdale, on the far east side of Houston,
shortly after a fresh crew got on board to take the train to Livonia, LA.

Why the number 1943? It must be synonymous with something other than the War years.

The original Spirit of the Union Pacific, a B-17 bomber, was built in 1943.

Wish CSX would do some heritage stuff. Not a chance at the present time though.

Ok, I get it, the B-17 must have been a silver, or polished aluminum one. Thus the silver paint. New unit looks very cool and diffetent in silver/blue paint!

No, the "Spirit of The Union Pacific" B-17 was NOT "silver", nor "polished Aluminum". Please go to the UP official website for the CORRECT & COMPLETE explanation of all the various colors on #1943 and their meanings.

Ok checked it out, didn't recognize the other colors in the posted night picture, however the silver paint does represent Air Force silver. here's the link for those who are curious:
