MPEX 667 at Denver going to Pueblo, CO
Author: cozephyr

Motive Power Industries passenger unit; BNSF Denver Diesel Shop, Denver, CO. MPEX 667, model MP40PHT-T4AC, will go to GO Transit. Motive Power Industries unit built 2017.

The unit will first undergo design qualification testing and vehicle dynamics testing. GO 668 to 682 will arrive in the latter part of 2017 and on into 2018. These units are 5400 HP twin- engine Tier 4 locomotives with AC traction. Twin QSK-60 2700 HP engines that generate 5400 HP combined. 4000 hp is used for traction, the balance for HEP and auxiliary locomotive power. The twin engines can be used individually to provide 2000 traction HP in economy mode. Both engines have alternators that feed a common bus, which supplies power to all four traction motors. BNSF Denver Diesel Shop, Denver, Colorado.

November 21, 2017 likely moving south via BNSF on Joint Line to Pueblo, CO.

Thanks for the well-researched post and photo.
This explains why they are not on a more direct route to Canada, eh?
Might you post this on the Canadian board? Could be of interest there.

Thanks for posting.

Weren't these designed MP54AC instead? Just curious if they changed the name. I've been very interested to see these in action, especially with the sound of dual Cummins diesels thrashing.

Your observation makes sense but info I found only mentioned MP40PHT-T4AC likely account '4000 hp is used for traction'.

Maybe someone else can provide further insight.

Midnight journey to Pueblo. Sitting there now. Friday after holiday to test center I think.
