Western Railroad Discussion > Diesel drivers cross paths at sunsetDate: 11/23/17 07:51 Diesel drivers cross paths at sunset Author: santafe199 Truck driving & railroading have always gone hand in hand. Sometimes it’s hand-to-hand combat… oops, I mean competition. And sometimes it’s in the logical extension of each others’ services. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve gotten both industries in the same photograph out on the road. This kind of shot just doesn’t happen in my railfanning theater. So I’ll enjoy the ironies and the coincidences in this sunset encounter at the Sand Creek Rd crossing in Ottawa, KS.
1. BNSF 4411 has command of a westbound grainer just east of the East Ottawa crossover plant. That’s the US hwy 59 overpass up above. Date: 11/23/17 07:53 Re: Diesel drivers cross paths at sunset Author: santafe199 Did somebody mention a sunset? Mr Sol may be officially retired for the day, but a sneaky photographer can still catch the full effect…
2. & 3. The 441/train combo passes by an ancient farmstead on Ottawa’s east side. 4. BNSF 7556 is the DP tagging along behind. (4 photos taken in Ottawa, KS on November 18, 2017) Here’s hoping truck drivers & railroad crews everywhere are able to be home with their families on this great American holiday! Have a great Thanksgiving, TO! Lance Garrels santafe199 Date: 11/23/17 09:31 Re: Diesel drivers cross paths at sunset Author: HogheadMike Great shot! It's nice that there are people out there that appreciate transportation industry workers. As for Thanksgiving......I'm stuck at the away from home terminal in Green River, Wyoming for it. I guess we will just have to have our big meal tomorrow and just pretend that its still Thanksgiving. That is what we usually do when it doesn't work out. It really doesn't make it suck any less though.

Sorry you're missing TG at home this year. Are you still getting up my way these days? Phil Date: 11/23/17 11:15 Re: Diesel drivers cross paths at sunset Author: mojaveflyer Great shots! With 37 years in police work, including 18 on the railroad, I can relate to working on holidays... At least you can enjoy the holiday, even if it's late. Be safe out there!
James Nelson Thornton, CO www.flickr.com/mojaveflyer Date: 11/23/17 11:29 Re: Diesel drivers cross paths at sunset Author: Margaret_SP_fan My thanks to all who are working today and cannot
be with their families to celebrate Thanksgiving -- railroaders, truckers, and airline crews and public safety workers. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here on TO and your families and friends! (And please remember, those of you who do have loving families to be with on holidays, to be grateful for that, as not everyone has loving families to be with during holidays.) Lance -- Photo #2 is gorgeous! It evokes a feeling of peace and timelessness. IOTD candidate for sure! The beautiful colors of the sunset and the reflections in the still water..... wow.... It is real art. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/23/17 12:04 by Margaret_SP_fan. Date: 11/23/17 13:28 Re: Diesel drivers cross paths at sunset Author: ns1000 Very nice..!!
