New MARC & SEPTA Power in Kansas

This afternoon, between work and later work, I snuck out to Wildcat country and photographed the Union Pacific SFLES-01 with the new SEPTA and MARC units out of Siemens.

I don't expect to see these back in Kansas anytime soon, so I wanted to get them while I could.

Here are three more views of the special as it neared Topeka. Unfortunately, the sun was setting and I had to get back to work, so this was as far as I took it, but I was thrilled to get what I could of this train.

It's great you got to see and photograph this
very unusual train. The light in $4 is simply
gorgeous!

Absolutely! However, from what I understand, there are more of these in the order, so hopefully I'll be able to catch more on their delivery runs.

Was this a "heavy engine move"? If not, why two diesels to pull it?

For that matter, would it have been possible to simply add the units to a cross country freight train? Is that not feasible, or is it just that Maryland and Philadelphia have money burning holes in their pockets?
