Western Railroad Discussion > 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF ManifestDate: 02/12/18 12:19 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF Manifest Author: zchcsse This clip (shot in December) shows a westbound BNSF manifest climbing the grade at Klinefelter, CA on BNSF's Needles Subdivision.
Included in the consist is a UP GP60 and three BNSF PR30Cs. The BNSF units are undoubtedly going to some yard in California, but the UP GP60's appearance on this train was certainly a mystery to me. Date: 02/12/18 13:11 Re: 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF Manifest Author: callum_out If that's a GP60 it looks to have had some work done on it, more like a GP50.
Out Date: 02/12/18 13:15 Re: 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF Manifest Author: exhaustED There's a page on rrpicturearchives saying GP60, but also a page saying it's a GP38-2. Could it have been de-rated/modified?
Date: 02/12/18 13:36 Re: 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF Manifest Author: SD45X It started life as a GP50. Unless the 60series dyno blister was replaced with a 50 series.
Date: 02/12/18 13:41 Re: 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF Manifest Author: callum_out UP was de-turboing some GP50s in the GP38 upgrade program so that would make sense, more sense than what
it's doing on BNSF. Out Date: 02/12/18 13:42 Re: 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF Manifest Author: zchcsse Interesting. Perhaps work had been done to it recently (before this video was shot) and that's why it's on this BNSF train. Maybe BNSF was delivering it back to UP via West Colton, or something.

Posted from Android Date: 02/12/18 16:49 Re: 3 PR30Cs and UP GP60 on BNSF Manifest Author: FiestaFoamer That's a GP60. The reason people on rrpa are saying GP38-2 is because 10 or 15 years ago UP had some GP38-2s or GP38-3s in that number series, and it's confusing.
The very early GP60s had the small dynamic blister, and are sort of rare. Those first twenty SP GP60s also came with low headlights, and there are still one or two running around that way on UP. GP62 = GP60 with two-way control stand (and maybe some other upgrades that also help with switching, not sure). UP does not have any deturbochrged GP50’s nor did they ever deturbocharge any of the former MoPac or C&NW that they once rostered. ------------------------------------------------------- > GP62 = GP60 with two-way control stand (and maybe some other upgrades that also help with switching, not sure). On the GP62 and SD62 units the control stand has been relocated slightly to allow easier operation with the long hood in the lead. Other changes include the installation of a speedometer on the back wall below the electrical panel and an outward facing camera on the long hood end of the locomotive. Not sure why UP 1075 was on the BNSF. Currently it is at North Platte, NE after being in Texas, Missouri, and Kansas for the month of January and most of this month up until today. As was mentioned earlier, the 1075 is an earlier GP60, built as SSW 9632 in September 1988. As for the SP GP60s with the headlights in the nose, that was only SP 9600-9619. Only 2 of them still have the nose mounted headlights. UP 1064 (originally SP 9607) and UP 1131 (originally SP 9606). |
