Three within thirty! Along the Snake River in Idaho (part 1)
Author: dag-id

We will only be off on old Hwy 30 for just a few minutes honey?? Then back to the interstate, I promise??? Luckily my little lady likes to chase with me, especially if there is something moving.. She likes it even better when the promise is kept and the UP helps me keep it!
Heading to Boise for a valentines day get away for a little shopping, lunch and dinner on Saturday Feb. 10th. Luckily my daughter was ahead of us by about an hour and gave me a heads up of a couple coming towards us. I had just over taken one heading west the same direction we were traveling. My thoughts went to, where can I make a quick exit and possibly catch all three and not throw off our plans to badly. Trains weren't in the plan, so no camera or video cam either (typical). Then the little misses reminds me that I have this smart phone thing that has video capability! Cool, where's the exit??
This is what I got in less than 30 minutes. Enjoy

Cool cool, looks like you had some good luck.

The first one with all the tankers is probably the MPCHK; I'm curious, if anyone has the resources and desire to find out, what the symbol might be on the stack train -- just because it's a K-line train, and we've had ongoing discussions here about the changing (vanishing) international stack train symbols on this stretch of track.

You were staying on one of my favorite spots.
Sun angle is always difficult there, though unless shooting westbounds in the afternoon..
If you back into that ranch road across from there, you can look up the hill toward Ticeska and see the westbounds crest King Hill.
My favorite spot is closer to Glenns Ferry overlooking the curve with the river in front.
There are also some good spots on the other side of the river alongside the old frontage road.

Nice catches! And thanks for posting.
Back in the '90's I caught several meets and passes on video, all along this stretch of tracks, especially just west of your location, there were some nice little turn-outs between here and Glenns Ferry, where you could see down onto the tracks and the river. Many other great spots also from top of King Hill, all the way west to the other hill to the west (Medburry Grade?)

Thank you for the compliment. Wasn't sure how they would turn out off of a smart phone.

I'm sure you've discovered that hilltop west of Hammett t00.
I have a couple of other spots to share with you.

Those smaller tank cars of sulfuric acid head north to Canada and CP.

Just a thought on the K-line stack train; eastbound, it's likely UP still runs solid trains for K-line (and/or whatever shipping alliance or merger it's in now), as when a ship comes into port, the resulting volume of containers is more than the regularly scheduled intermodal trains can handle. Westbound, that doesn't tend to be an issue as the volume of business is more spread out.
