Western Railroad Discussion > Stampede Pass - Green River Bridge / Palmer JctDate: 02/20/18 21:17 Stampede Pass - Green River Bridge / Palmer Jct Author: DelMonteX I enjoyed the Kansakat area so much during a light snow, I decided to go back the following day and see if I could re-capture the moment with a little more focus on the bridge over the Green river. Of course the scene was different, less snow, much more sun, but I was a little better prepared.

Here's the sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKEUJaQcPrg Until they make a drone with a mic that has built-in noise canceling (i.e. cancel out the blades and motors) and a good directional mic, there are 4 options: 1) no sound 2) music 3) sound recorded of the train from a stationary point and dubbed in. Not very true to the scene, but something I'll try, when I remember to make a separate audio recording and not when I'm standing next to a grade crossing with the bell going. Turns out that's a bit easier than I understood. The DJI app that controls the drone can use the device (in my case and iPad mini 4) to record audio. 4) stock sounds of a train, any train. Maybe a steam train for this grainer would be good? Hope your still improving! Steve Carter Gig Harbor, WA My Photography Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/20/18 22:16 by DelMonteX. Date: 02/21/18 05:38 Re: Stampede Pass - Green River Bridge / Palmer Jct Author: Auburn_Ed Track to the right (once one leg of a wye) is the ORIGINAL Northern Pacific line to Tacoma, now goes only to a rock quarry at Veazey, used to store cars. It kinda paralleled a Milwaukee Road branch to Enumclaw, you can see the remains of their bridge abutments below the now BNSF bridge. The train is running on the "Palmer Cutoff", a later, more direct line to Seattle built early 1900's.

Now, about how many trains per day use the Stampede Line. BNSF and Rob Krebs spent a lot of money reopening that line and I'm wondering if they've gotten that money back yet. I would say that traffic to the PNW is going to have to get a lot heavier before BNSF considers any line upgrades to eliminate Stampede Tunnel. I agree that the blades and engine noise would be pretty annoying, trying to hear a train over the buzzing sound would be nearly impossible. Steam engine idea sounds fun, just got to get a GE leading that has a bad turbo to make that potentially work! :) I am improving steadily, physical therapy 2 times a week through April now, and still light duty at work. The hematoma will probably take a few more months to finally disappear. Mentally I am ok, but still have flashbacks a few times a day of the derailment. Dale finally gets to put 50% weight on his left leg next week! I will probably cry when I see him walk without a walker. |
