17 cars derailed on the BNSF Brookfield Subdivision at Randolph No on the skirts of Kansas City, MO.

It was a BNSF train. There are two main tracks at this location, the other one is NS.

I've only got a couple photos. The place is difficult to access.

Gotta love the RR way of fixing things... Priority one, reopen the line! Drag all the derailed freight clear of the ROW, drop in some panel track, dump some rock, reconnect the CTC, and run like hell. Worry about those wrecked cars later, time is money!

When you are running 110 trains a day across some mainlines, you had best get operating again quickly. A 48 hour delay would extend all the way across country......

Which RR lines are which?

Are the pair at the left BNSF and NSRR at the right?

Or, is BNSF on the left and NSRR in the middle?

Tracks left to right are BNSF, NS, and the NS tail track and crossover into their automobile frame unloading facility. BNSF owns Main 1, NS owns 2, NS dispatches both, they consider it portions of their Brookfield Sub. and Kansas City District, respectively. They dragged the cars out out of the way anywhere they'd fit. You're talking about roughly 1,000 feet of train they dumped out here. This line probably hosts a total of about 20-25 moves a day at this point counting all the light power moves, locals, and yard jobs that pass.

BNSF's philosophy after a derailment, do what it takes to get that main open again for traffic. Clean up the mess later and pay landowners if necessary!!.. Not sure how NS approaches these unfortunate situations.

Pretty much exactly the same, open the mains. Open the checkbook.

Brookfield Sub traffic hardly ever exceeds 5-6 trains per day. Traffic hasn’t been “heavy” since UP took over SPCSL who ran 20+ trains a day on that line.

This is the joint trackage with Norfolk Southern at this location--it most definitely sees around the aforementioned number of movements in a 24 hour period. The Brookfield proper has picked up quite a few semi-regular "new" trains as of the past 2-5 months, however; this being one of them. Just a couple weeks ago it had 9 trains on it at once.

The Brookfield Sub should pick up even more when they shut down the Transcon to put the new bridge in at Media, IL . That could happen this weekend
