UP 1900 - Last Rio Grande Painted Unit on UP
Author: ble692

The last actual Rio Grande painted unit on the UP, ex-DRGW GP60 3154 patch renumbered as UP 1900, is now at North Little Rock Jenks Shop (NLR) for repainting. It was patch renumbered back in January 2002, and has been the last Rio Grande painted unit on the UP for some years now. Just recently it was in the shop at North Platte for a full PTC install, and now it has moved inside at NLR for repainting and renumbering. Before too long it will be wearing UP yellow as UP 1168. For a picture of it last weekend shortly after arrival at NLR see the link. Some of the new PTC equipment can be seen behind the air conditioner on the cab roof in the picture.

Man, there are only 2 patched CNWs (6706 and 6731)plus 4 dash 9s
The SP patched units are sure dwindling too. Sad indeed.

The 1900 looks good...doesn't need re-painting. Thanks for posting though.

That's a complete cab roof PTC install? No need for a BNSF style "Thomas brow" solution? Interesting.

In the picture is how the UP does it. No "brows" are found on any UP units.

Separately, I'm not sure why some of the BNSF units need that "brow" and others don't seem to need it. Does anyone know?

I've been told the units with the Brow have Remote Control gear.
So Remote Control gear + PTC + Air Conditioner + FRED Antenna = Too much stuff!
