Those must be EMD-supplied cabs? They don't look home-built like the other cabs. === === = === JLH

Are these wreck-rebuilds, or just age-rebuilds?

NS is going to turn their standard cab DC traction SD70's into widecab AC traction units. The changes in the electrical system requires a new cab AND NS wants widecabs for their road units anyway.

They are Progress Rail cabs as EMD is no longer a manufacturer.

Maybe but the Progress Rail website still calls the locomotives EMD's.

Correct. EMD is the brand.

Making it an EMD cab just like it's a Chevy Silverado not a GM Silverado.

An EMD cab built by Progress Rail.

So do you call Chevy Sliverados "Chevy Sliverados built by GM"?

Lincoln Continental built by Ford

I'm simply clarifying that EMD didn't "supply" the new cabs.

Actually, the original comment called it an EMD cab. You called it a Progress Rail cab. Truth be told, Super Steel used to build EMD's cabs (may still). Are those therefore Super Steel cabs? Since there are Progress Rail branded products and EMD branded locomotives, I consider it an EMD cab.

What do you consider GE's Mexican supplied cabs?

You are correct. To quote myself, "They are Progress Rail cabs as EMD is no longer a manufacturer." So let me clarify again. To quote highgreengraphics, "Those must be EMD-supplied cabs?" The cab was not "supplied" by EMD because EMD doesn't build locomotives anymore.

Since you bring it up, they are Super Steel-built cabs. Super Steel built the cabs for EMD. But that has no bearing on this discussion as EMD was still a manufacturer at that time. Progress rail did not build these SD70ACC cabs for EMD.

It absolutely is an EMD cab.

I don't know, who built them? :-)

So is a Peterbilt cab a Paccar Cab? An International cab a Navistar cab? Nobody ever talked about a Ford truck having a Sheller Globe cab. This could go on and on.

At this time, CAT/Progress Rail markets the locomotives as EMD's making them EMD cabs. If they had used the cab from the PR43's, they would be a Progress Rail cab.

That is correct.
