Western Railroad Discussion > Not the middle of nowhere, but I can see it from here.Date: 05/16/18 15:47 Not the middle of nowhere, but I can see it from here. Author: ns2557 Well we went west across Nebraska along the BNSF Coal Main yesterday. Stopped at Lusk Wyoming for the night. This morning we were up and moving rather early, about 0545 or so. After departing Lusk we ventured west along the UP Coal Main. North Platte Div/Powder River Sub. Really nice looking main line out here among teh antelope. (No deer to be seen, so they were not playing). Told my wife "If we come upon an EB, I'm gonna stop and grab a shot". The Railfan Gods were smiling. At MP256 we came across this EB. UP 2632 and a load headed east. You can see for miles out here and the farther west we went the more of the middle of nowhere we saw. We have finished for the day now and are up in Montana, Billings to be exact. Have an early am delivery to take care of. Ya'll take care and thanks for looking. Ben

I find it very reassuring that there still is a lot of "nowhere" out here in the West.
That is a great photo -- love the sun angle -- and you took it from the shady side. Very nice! Date: 05/18/18 15:58 Re: Not the middle of nowhere, but I can see it from here. Author: Copy19 I was hi-railing with an inspection tour of the CNW line near Lusk before the railroad turned into a super coal corridor in 1984. The track was so bad I was afraid the hi-rail would derail. There were a lot of ties with the ends sticking up in the air. I asked one of the CNW guys if they actually ran trains over that track. He said “sure”. I remember that red water tank in Lusk. Seems like yesterday.

Nice and quiet here at Lusk. Just for fun, here is a shot I took of a thunderstorm that was just getting going south of Lusk that night. Really like the way the sun lights it up. Ben |
