on the road again . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . . spent today mostly around Crozier Canyon. On arrival was a little surprised to find a Herzog work train on main two in the middle of the canyon, working on cleanup from the unfortunate accident a couple of weeks ago. I had thought it was on the west end of the canyon and I had hopped it was all gone. Not so, with plenty of foremen around and at the end of the day I even had a run in with a very unpleasant BNSF train master who obviously woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Probably took A LOT of flak after the accident and it hasn't worn off yet? Since Herzog had track two, trains were being fleeted through the Canyon between Valentine and Cherokee on main one. Just before arriving heard six west were next. Here they are. Tried for a little different location for each and had to stay away from the first big curve as that is where the rear ender happened. . . TWELVE more to come . . .

. . . after six west, three east ran before it got quiet, I ate lunch, hiked back to the truck, had my unpleasant time with the train master, went to Peach Springs to nap and kill time until the high sun passed . . . SIX more to come . . .

. . . by now the work train had departed freeing up both mains so waited on the west end of the Canyon for whatever came first. Turned out to be a westbound Z train approaching Valentine (top) then decided to hike in near the west end of Crozier to see what came and three in a row come out of the west end (middle and bottom) . . . last THREE coming . . .

. . . third westbound snuck up on me catching a grab shot before heading back to the truck (top) then headed west to Antares, where the main makes a near ninety degree curve south towards Kingman catching a westbound ten thousand footer (middle) and an endless eastbound "earthworm" grain empty.

Nice photo's Joe. I know how you love Crozier!

Did you run into that crabby TM on the way out of the canyon or was he looking for you?

Some how the concept of "shooting fish in a rain barrel" seems to have crept into things. But,
still a really nice place to shoot trains.

The hill at Antares is always a great place to end the day around Kingman unless if course its windy. Thanks for sharing...

Great set and I'm glad the weather cooperated for you this time.

Would you care to share the details of your encounter with the TM?

We're you able to collect that TM's rattles? In all seriousness, great pictures as always.
