Western Railroad Discussion > UP Fort Collins Local in today's storm lightDate: 06/19/18 21:48 UP Fort Collins Local in today's storm light Author: highgreengraphics Today's UP LaSalle-Fort Collins Local north of Fort Collins, CO on the Boettcher Branch delivering cement covered hoppers to the Holcim Cement Plant loadout, in some weird light under mean clouds that according to the NWS spawned a tornado northeast of here. It's not hard to imagine the stark silo towers on top of the hill as a medieval castle with foreboding skies boiling over it. === === = === JLH

Dick Ebright Roosevelt, Utah Date: 06/19/18 22:17 Re: UP Fort Collins Local in today's storm light Author: Ritzville The storm clouds sure set the mood for your interesting picture.

Like the lighting and composition, can really see the details on the lead units perfectly. About what O'clock position was the sun in your photo? Also reminds one of The Wizard of Oz! Like a cross between Norman Rockwell & Howard Fogg. Very nicely done!

Date: 06/20/18 05:29 Re: UP Fort Collins Local in today's storm light Author: highgreengraphics Thanks, everyone. It was about 1:00 PM, the sun would have been a bit wrong if it was not bouncing off other clouds. To the right is where all the real nasty action was in the clouds, but could not frame that in the view. Right here the train has stopped for about 4 minutes to line the switch behind the train, giving me time to scurry around the low piles of dirt fill to try to compose the clouds into the view. It only barely sprinkled here though it sure smelled strongly of rain and was raining mightily only a short distance away. === === = === JLH

Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 06/20/18 10:02 Re: UP Fort Collins Local in today's storm light Author: callum_out Love your shot, the College World Series game yesterday afternoon was postponed due to weather, but
several years ago there was a game postponed with exactly the cloud formation you shot off to the West. End up pretty scary for those in attendance not used to Midwest weather.
