Cantara Loop Minor Derailment
Author: ross

Morning all- SB MPWRV has put one car on the ground at/near Cantara Loop. Expect a short-term closure of the line (at least 6-8 hours is likely.) Will update.

UPDATE1: Reported as a TTZX loaded lumber car. Mid-train.

Haven't heard a milepost. Agree with somewhere beteen Dunsmuir and the scanner above Azealea. Can't hear the head end on the radio, that would be consistent with 'in the canyon'.

The Dunsmuir RR radio feed is working, btw.

They pulled the front end into Dunsmuir yard, UP 9033 with 40 cars, last car an empty center beam. Two loaded utility pole cars on the head end and two more in the train. Radio traffic simply says Cantara loop.

+ MoW has T&T from Mott to Dunsmuir. 'Out of Service' to follow.

UP hasn't been able to get a break on the I-5 corridor: tunnels, the Tehachapi derailment, now this.

Just a heads up to the Train Mountain folks, both the freeway and Old Stage road are jammed with cars and trucks due to the Construction project between Mott and the town of Mt Shasta. Somebody tried to run a 53 ft trailer and got it stuck at Big Canyon, second time this week.

Yep, it was a fine mess on I5 this afternoon. Happily, when I was through there at 1900 it was clear and smooth sailing.
Amazing what people will try to drive down Old Stage Road...

That's tight. What's the curvature on the loop?

The remaining section of the subject train just came into Dunsmuir yard area, DPU's on the rear. The first car into town appears to be the errant car, an empty center beam. So it appears that the derailed car was the trailing of two ( what appear to be ) empty center beam cars. Perhaps they were unloaded at the site.

They seem to be setting out some cars in the yard. Not sure what they need to do to open the line but it seems to be well on it's way.
