A few from our trip across the country recently
Author: ns2557

Hey ya'll, Been awhile since our last posts. But it's been kinda hectic. We got a trip out of Cartrhage Mo headed for Colton Calif. Thought it would be a great time to get one of my very few and far between trips to the west coast. They at least obliged. We took off headed west across US400/US54 twds California. We continued west on I40 across New Mexico and Arizona and eventually Calif thru the Barstow area. So enough with the small caht, here are some shots from the trip. Lets get with it then....

Shot 1. Came across this WB UP train at Bucklin Ks. With a few stops here and there we kept up with it pretty good west. Started to think a shot at the bridge east of Liberal Ks, "Samson of The Cimarron" Got ahead of it, but not sure how far we were ahead of it. Ducked into the small rest area and planned to jump out when I saw it coming. Didn't exactly work the way I planned it. But we did get a few shots. Here is UP 5309 WB as it is about the bridge wb. Shot on 06/9/2018. Almost got the shot, but....

Shot 2. Here is UP 6012 EB just over the Texas/New Mexico State Line, on the NM side. (Actually a few miles into Texas at this point) Surprise was the trailing unit, the UP 9771 in patched CNW Paint. Nice surprise here. 06-29-2018

Shot 3. West end of Crozier Canyon? MP 418.2 on the Seligman Sub. BNSF 6847 and 6531 have this stacker WB after meeting an EB grainer here. One of the few spots I can actually stop and get some shots at thru this great area. 06-30-2018

A couple more to follow....

Last 2...

Shot 4.  When we came into Kingman Az. (Our resting spot for the night) we passed this one east of town. Seeing all the head end power and the 2 in DPU on the rear, thought it would be a good one to try and shoot.  We stopped at the Flying J in Kingman and after getting a shower and something to nibble on we went back behind out truck, set up the lawn chairs and ate some wings, had a cold beverage and some good companionship along with the main attraction, trains. After getting run around by at least 3 other WB and 1 EB this one finally started it's journey WB.  BNSF 3926 has 5 other units trailing along with 106 Tanks with 2 buffer cars and 2 DPU on the rear. And the DPU's were just as interesting as the leaders, as KCS 4849 was the rear most unit. 06-30-2018.

Shot 5. The last one we shot for the day. CP C44AC 8654 is the trailing DPU on another of the endless Stack Trains that passed us here tonight. Interestingly enough, the previous train had a BNSF/FXE/FXE/CREX set as lead units. (See last shot here). Made for a great day along the Transcon.

Shot 6.  Said train of BNSF/FXE/FXE/CREX units EB at Kingman Az 06-30-2018.  Units are BNSF 6357; FXE 4669; FXE 4068 and CREX 1408

We are now in Oregon after making our way up the Central Valley from Fowler Calif this am. Got some decent shots of a few here and there along the way.

Hope everyone has a great Independence Day tomorrow. Ya'll take care.  Ben
