Two Rare Birds with One Shot
Author: spider1319

An actual working caboose ,not a riding platform and a trip on one of just a  few UP branches left in the Pacific Northwest.Last month I guessed a trip to Pilot Rock and lucked out.The Pilot Rock Branch has one customer left, Kinzua or Boise Cascade at Pilot Rock.  Service is very sproradic and infrequent with the branch being in and out of service of late. The first view is the Local returning to the main cab hop.The second image is further close to the junction and the last picture is at Rieth where the main and branch meet.Bill Webb

Nice but the lava flows in the background must have been enormous zillion years ago.

Lava flows nearly all over Eastern Oregon. Many layers in most places.  Jeff

Wow!  Great shots!  Thanks for sharing.
I always love taking "the back way" through Echo and along the Umatilla River when I pass through that area.  It's been awhile.

Nice shots of the local and power.   Did they take empties up and not bring back any loads?

Very dramatic pictures. Kinda reminds one of the good old lazy days. Thanks for showing.

Well done.  Love those branch lines.  Asked Jim Wrinn to run a feature on what branch lines remain on Class I's.  Maybe some day Trains Mag will, time will tell.
