Western Railroad Discussion > UP Sparks or Elko lineup help

Can anyone help via post or pm with information on a UP train lineup out of Sparks and/or Elko, Nevada for the next couple of days? I have a rough idea of the daily train movements but looking for something a little more precise if possible. Thank you so much in advance. -WJ

I’m hanging out in Truckee for the weekend, if you would like, I can give you a headsup on what I see in this area?

There was a long manifest eastbound through Boca around 630am, 3x2 about 120 cars. It should be in Sparks as of now(7:40am) removing its DPU’s.

There is a green light eastbound at milepost 205(downtown truckee) right now as well.

Have fun this weekend, and carry plenty of water. It’s hot!

I just checked the lineup for Sparks 33 trains east in the next 36 hours, 3 are currently on duty in Sparks with 3 more between RSVL and Sparks.  Line ups are not always accurate. Currently 5 trains between Elko and Winnimucca next line up shows 12 west in the next 36 hours.

A friend of mine recently spent the better part of a week camping in the Palisade area, his report on trains ran roubly as follows:

Monday 6/25: 3 Eastbound/4 Westbound (arrived at 5 pm)
Tuesday 6/26: 7 Eastbound/12 Westbound
Wednesday 6/27: 9 Eastbound/9 Westbound/1 unknown
Thuraday, 6/28: 10 Eastbound/7 Westbound/3 Unknown
Friday 6/29: 10 Eastbound/14 Westbound
Saturday 6/30: 12 Eastbound/10 Westbound

This should have been just after the last of the Cascade Route detours passed through, so this should represent somewhat "normal" traffic.  These are for the full 24-hour period.  Keep in mind UP likes to fleet trains through here, you might see 4-5 trains going the same direction within an hour or so then nothing for half a day.

2 more long manifests eastbound past truckee between 2-3pm. Both should be removing mid train DPU’s in sparks.

Both had Norfolk Southern units trailing on the head end.
