UP 844 & CFD To Cheyenne This Morning
Author: mojaveflyer

This morning I decided to blow off my chres and head over to the UP's Greeley Sub to photograph the 844 and the Cheyenne Frontier Days train departing Denver for a visit to Cheyenne for the opening of Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo. I first caught the train when it backed from North Yard to the Greeley Sub using the old Rock Island mainline, now known as the Belt Line.

Photo #1- The special has backed on to the Greeley Sub mainline and departs for Cheyenne. That's the Denver skyline in the background.

Photo #2- A pose by the 844...

Photo #3- The special has reached Speer where it drops down to Cheyenne. The train is stretched around on the Greeley Sub main as the train enters Main 4.

More photos in Part II.

Photo #4- I was wishing I had a little more room between the signals and the dispatcher obliged by crossing the train over to Main 3 for a little more room to fit the power between the signals.

Photo #5- The train heads down Main 3 towards Cheyenne.

Thanks for looking!

UP certainly spent a ton to create this opportunity and PR Bonanza.  Just wish I lived closer to ride or
at least get to one of the locations.  Given all the negative news just a few months back with some folks
complaining to high heaven that nothing good would ever come forth from Cheyenne, it sure is great to
see so much good news and great views "thunder on down the tracks."  Thanks for taking the time to
post your excellent images for us all to enjoy.

Picture 1 is a classic!    Modern city in the background, 70 year old loco and cars in the foreground....Don't think I have ever seen anything quite like it.  Fantastic job!

Wonderful pictures.

It's great to see the 844, the Cheyenne Frontier Days, and the Denver Post still in business and doing what they've always done so well.
