Western Railroad Discussion > GP60's in old paintDate: 08/14/18 01:45 GP60's in old paint Author: Evan_Werkema A quick trip to the SF Bay Area from LA over the weekend netted a couple of GP60's still wearing the paint jobs they left the factory with.
1, 2. At Calwa Yard in Fresno, CA, thirty-year-old former Santa Fe 4012 was playing amongst a herd of year-old ET44C4's. 3. At South San Francisco, former Cotton Belt 9684 was hobnobbing with yellow-painted sisters. UP 1004 is two years newer than BNSF 171, but its gray hasn't aged as well as 171's blue. While BNSF seems to be in no hurry to repaint the blue and yellow GP60's, the ranks of red and gray GP60's are thinning rapidly: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4610967 Edited 1 time(s). Do not look for the ex-ATSF GP60's to be repainted anytime soon. I asked about that at a Santa Fe convention last year and a former Santa Fe, now BNSF, person told me the lessor wanted them painted that way. I'm not kidding. So, we'll see some "blue and yellow" for some time yet. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 08/14/18 08:43 Re: GP60's in old paint Author: NYSWSD70M ntharalson Wrote:

The odds of it just being chance that the entire fleet has gone unrepainted for over 30 years is a bit of a long shot in my estimation. Especially when you consider the newer GP60M fleet has been entirely repainted, some a couple times over. Not that I'm arguing by any means, but it just seems strange.
