Western Railroad Discussion > Spirit of the Union Pacific on the WashyDate: 09/12/18 14:06 Spirit of the Union Pacific on the Washy Author: Roadrailer While unable to witness the northbound trip of the UP 1943 and the passenger train on the Ayer Sub, AKA the "Washy", I was fortunate enough to catch the set southbound Tuesday afternoon.
1-2) By the time i was aware of the train's departure, it was too late to intercept them at Joso, which probably would not have been the best weather nor sun angles. I headed for Page and spent only about 20-minutes there pondering if I'd missed them when around the corner they appeared. 3) UP 1943 was stunning and provided a great salute with the K5LLA. What an awesome locomotive to witness on 9/11. A few more shots... Date: 09/12/18 14:07 Re: Spirit of the Union Pacific on the Washy Author: Roadrailer 4) Full consist rolling through Page5) Most locations along the subdivision are difficult to access numerous times. After quickly packing up the gear and hitting the highway, I was able to get ahead of slow moving agricultural equipment which allowed me to slow enough to capture this grab shot on the new(er) Hwy 124 overpass between Ash (Charbonneau Park) and Humorist.6) Once they arrived Attalia, the crew repositioned and backed into the Cold Connect (formerly Railex) facility loop track to clear the main for two Northbounds, a CP manifest and the BNSF Low Line.
One more set... Date: 09/12/18 14:08 Re: Spirit of the Union Pacific on the Washy Author: Roadrailer 7) The Idaho, UP 203, brings up the markers, well actually it’s leading the train as they are shoved around the loop to allow personnel to detrain and tour the facilities, including a rumored intermodal facility under construction within. 8) CP 8701/8704/9709 lead a short northbound Hinkle to Eastport manifest at Wallula Heights9) The “Low Line” local with BNSF 286/276 right on the heels of the MHKET rounding the S curves at Attalia. Thanks for looking,

Brian in Keizer Date: 09/12/18 15:53 Re: Spirit of the Union Pacific on the Washy Author: Roadrailer Everything I have read/heard says that the train will continue EAST after spending some time, at least today, in Pendleton for the Pendleton Round-up Rodeo.

Rob Date: 09/12/18 17:34 Re: Spirit of the Union Pacific on the Washy Author: Margaret_SP_fan Thanks so much for the really nice photo! SO glad youwere able to see and photograph this very special train.
But -- they backed into a siding for a MANIFEST?? And another train? Roadrailer, or anyone who know -- Were there spoecial guests on board when Roadrailer took these pictures? Date: 09/12/18 17:39 Re: Spirit of the Union Pacific on the Washy Author: Roadrailer There were indeed guest aboard the train as they backed into the loop.
They not only went into the loop to clear the single main for traffic, but also to off load said guest for tours of the Cold Connect. The Special also left Pendleton this afternoon, so hopefully someone got pictures of it in the Blues TODAY! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/12/18 17:40 by Roadrailer.
