KCS' New Veterans Unit's 1st Run
Author: bnsfsd70

This afternoon, I was able to track down the KCS 4006 on the point of the QSHKC13, and thought that I'd share some photos with you all.

This unit was just recently released from KCS' Shreveport, LA shops, and this was its first trip north after its repainting.

More info on the unit can be found here: http://www.kcsouthern.com/media/news/news-releases/kcs-veterans-day-salute-unveils-patriotic-locomotive-events-for-u-s-military-active-duty-and-veteran-employees

Photo 1: Here it is pulling north through the siding at Jaudon, MO, some 30 or so miles south of Kansas City.

Photo 2: A few miles north of there, I found the train pulling into the south end of Grandview's IFG yard, where they would stop to do some work.  This is taken from the comfortably-wide shoulder of the 171st St. Overpass.

Photo 3: My final view of it before having to head back home is while the power was backing onto its pickup at IFG in Grandview.  In addition to the 4006, it was nice to see quite the colorful consist in tow, in the form of the KCS 3925 and the PRLX 627.

Thanks a lot for looking,
- Jeff Carlson

Outstanding images.  A-1 effort at recording some KCS/Pittsburg Sub. history and this new locomotive's first big run. .

There's an Image of the Day in there somewhere. The Webmasters will have to decide.

Some people think this engine is ugly. I don't, it's unique in its own way and breaks the monotony of the railroads this day and age. Bravo KCS!

It is like someone at KCS showed a designer a photo of UP1943 and said,
"Just make sure we don't get caught cheating, and here's a 1/4 of their budget"

I didn't particularly like UP 1943 at first. But then I saw it in person. And I saw it more often on TO and have done a complete one-eighty on it. But my verdict is still out with this er... um... paint job. I don't particularly dislike it. But I'm having a bit of weird perception with the red/white striped mid section. I'm sure it's a classic optical illusion effect, but that section looks like it's about 10 feet l-o-n-g-e-r than it should be...

BTW: Good work on the catch!

It's a diesel locomotive guys. Who gives a damn what it looks like . If it preforms as well as it should ,that's all that's needed.  If it doesn't , it's an expensive mistake.
