I think that would have been in 1969 when the Eisenhower funeral train ran from DC to Abilene, Kansas.

As a tribute to and remembrance of a great man, it would be a nice gesture if Union Pacific would keep this locomotive in service from here on out, and keep it clean. It would be a nice reflection on the UP as well.

That would be nice but in today's political climate that would be tough, you'd have some antifa type people trying to deface it when parked or do worse when it is in use which would endanger the crew.

That's an awful expensive display piece.

I too was with the understanding that the 4141 would be placed on display at the Bush Library at Texas A&M upon his passing.

It's their money and their decision.

Supposedly, the donation will be the shell - internal parts to be removed first.

Great for the Union Pacific to place this memorial locomotive 4141 on display. I went off to transport war materials to the Persian Gulf for Desert Shield and Desert Storm when he was POTUS, because I trusted him very much as he was a veteran of WWII and also former head of the CIA.

It sounds like in model railroading, just a "dummy" unit.  I'd be pleased with that in my back yard!!
I agree, it's the UP's decision and paying respect to a great President and "human being"...something that seemingly is fading away in our political field nowadays with the constant negativity.
RIP  G. H. W. Bush! 😢🙏
