It seems like an appropriate and dignified concluding honor to a national leader. I was only a boy when I watched JFK's funeral train being pulled by 2 (if I recall correctly) GG-1's. Also a sad time in America. Date: 12/01/18 17:17 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: tomdoyle409 I think you mean RFK.
Date: 12/01/18 17:57 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: SierraRail Only three Presidents had Funeral trains, Abe Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower.

Date: 12/01/18 18:37 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: daylightdon Thanks for the correction Tom. I do recall seeing the black GG-1's and for some reason remembered it as JFK's train. I quick check on Google corrected a very old memory.

I remember getting up early in the morning to go down to the UP depot in Topeka to see the Eisenhower funeral train. We had to park several blocks away -there were thousands of people there in the darkness to pay tribute to DDE. Quite memorable. This was something President Bush wanted because he loved trains. =12ptOnce the train arrives in College Station, it will be greeted by the Corps of Cadets. At the library, there will be a brief service with a flyover with the missing man formation. It was just transporting his body to DC so they could do the funeral. Date: 12/01/18 21:31 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: dan bush's 1992 campaign train

There is background info about President Bush's funeral as well as several fact sheets about the funeral train and general history of US Presidents and railroads Odyssey Evergreen, CO Edited 1 time(s). I bet a lot going on in the background operations wise. I wonder how much faith the Chief Mechanical Officer has in a SD-70Ace that has been sitting around for years? Maybe UP will put together some sort of documentary from the railroad perspective. Something for the railroad history books (media).
Ironic that two great Iconic American Corporations, both GM - EMD and now GE are no longer in the Locomotive business. Sphogger Date: 12/02/18 10:07 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: Lackawanna484 If the 4141 and 1943 are operating together, 1943 should be able to handle the load.
Will 4141 operate south to Texas on its own? Posted from Android Date: 12/02/18 10:09 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: dan it is either there or in Arkansas
Date: 12/02/18 10:10 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: CarolVoss =12ptFrom ABCtv news—-
Unlike other engines on the rails, Bush 4141 is the only one to have ever been driven by its namesake and a former U.S. President. =12ptMichael Iden, who worked closely with the crew to create Bush 4141, was aboard the historic ride. =12ptIden says Bush requested to take a tour of the locomotive a day just after it was dedicated to him. =12pt"The president looked at us and said with a smile on his face, 'Do you mind if I take it on a drive?'" Iden said. =12ptAfter a brief lesson, Bush took control of the train and went on his first ride. =12ptSince then, Bush 4141 has been in storage. Carol Voss Bakersfield, CA Date: 12/02/18 10:23 Re: Bush Funeral Schedule Author: sptno If UP sends UP 4141 south to Houston for the funeral train, which route will it take?
Also, maybe the shop crew will have enough time to remove what is needed to it can be put on display sometime after the funeral. Going to be interesting to see UP plan for the 4141. I might venture over to College Station from Austin to see if I can get some pictures of UP 4141. Thanks Pat South Austin, TX WA5VRO |
