UP 1943 is haulin' for Texas with 21-car passenger train
Author: JoCoLB

The specially-painted locomotive No. 1943, the "Spirit of the Union Pacific," left Council Bluffs/Omaha this morning with a 21-car passenger consist and is already in Oklahoma after traveling down the former Missouri Pacific and Katy lines in Eastern Kansas following a crew change in Kansas City, Mo. and again in Parsons, KS. The train is headed to Houston, where the train equipment will be used for President George H.W. Bush's funeral train later this week.

I shot this video clip in the tiny unincorporated town of Beagle, KS, (M.P. 54.5) on the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad route. It seemed to be making posted track speed.

I was privy to a tentative schedule on Sunday but the train was already running about 2 hours late when it passed through Beagle.

As has been reported, the U.P. 4141 George Bush engine will be heading this train after its arrival in the Houston area.

Will the UP 1943 be running with the UP 4141 on the trip from Spring to College Station?

Yes. That's my understanding. No. 4141 should be the leader.

Nice video and what an impressive train.
I'm going to try and catch it between Houston and College Station on Thursday.
At the end of the video, is that a station to the far right?

On the west side of the track is what is left of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad depot in Beagle. It is probably the most derelict depot building remaining in the state of Kansss.  (Photo by Larry Byers)
