Last North Yard to Roper Yard, Utah, Dec 5, 2018
Author: cozephyr

Union Pacific's Unified Plan 2020 has decided the North Yard, Denver, CO, to Roper Yard, Salt Lake City, Utah, trains will no longer operate.  The last M NYRO left Denver early evening December 5, 2018 with UP 7770 up front of a 6x1 train on UP's Moffat Tunnel and Glenwood Springs Subdivisions.

Had a couple of great days on my few trips to Soldier Summit.  However last time there about 3 years ago I spent almost 5 straight hours looking at tracks.  Sounds like it's going get even quieter.

The MRVRO is also no longer. Replaced by the MRVOG. It'll be interesting to see how long Ogden can keep up with the traffic change.

So what happens to E/b Grand Junction traffic? GJ to Ogden to North Yard? That's gotta add a couple of days of transit.

It would make more sense to hand over the traffic to BNSF at GJ.

Per "florida581", the MWCRO/MSCWC manifests are now MWCOG/MOGWC.

From what I understand, Ogden is now going to be the primary classification yard for the greater Salt Lake area. Roper will only handle traffic bound for the Salt Lake City industries.

•Ogden trains
MGROG Green River, WY - Ogden, UT daily
MHKOG Hinkle, OR - Ogden, UT daily
MOGGR Ogden, UT - Green River, WY daily
MOGHK Ogden, UT - Hinkle, OR daily
MOGPC Ogden, UT - Pocatello, ID Th-Tu
MOGRO Ogden, UT - Roper, UT daily
MOGRV Ogden, UT - Roseville, CA We-Mo
MOGWC Ogden, UT - West Colton, CA daily
MPCOG Pocatello, ID - Ogden, UT Tu-Su
MRVOG Roseville, CA - Ogden, UT Tu-Su
MWCOG West Colton, CA - Ogden, UT daily

•Roper trains
MNPRO North Platte, NE - Roper, UT daily
MOGRO Ogden, UT - Roper, UT daily
MRONP Roper, UT - North Platte, NE daily

Roper also has the MRORO that is sticking around for now. The goal of that train is to run from Roper to Provo and back with one crew.

Looks like MRORO will be gone by this weekend.  I’m not sure what train or local will handle the Provo traffic.

Roper hasn’t really been touched since the DRGW days and the only traffic there is the automotive facility and the locals.

They are keeping two hard jobs.

Basically it took a day or many to switch out the traffic where Ogden has inbound and outbound tracks and setup a little nicer.

Friend of mine was working Ogden this summer and said OG was a back home for trains, but with the shift in trains that work there will see how that happens.

There is a MNYGJ, not sure how often it will run.

Shame to see the Moffat being further  cleansed of trains.

Starting 12/7,
MNYGJ North Yard, CO - Grand Junction, CO will run Mo, We, Fr.

Starting 12/9,
MGJNY Grand Junction, CO - North Yard, CO will run Mo, We, Fr.

Also on the Moffat Tunnel Line,
MNYPH North Yard, CO - Phippsburg, CO runs on Su.
MPHNY Phippsburg, CO - North Yard, CO runs on We.

So will the "new" MRVOG/MOGRV pair now travel via the Lakeside Sub (avoiding Silver Zone Pass) ? If not, that's an extra 40 miles a trip.

Yes, both will traverse the Lakeside Sub.

With little going on in Shafter you could sell or abandon Pilot Peak to Wells, Silver Zone (other than BNSF) is going to
become pretty lonely. Amtrak makes sense as Elko/Ogden/SLC.
