It is also on CNN, Fox News and some other networks...  Virtual Railfan has a live web feed too.

Lead train has already moved north behind UP 9069 and 7379.
Funeral train has UP #4141 and 9096
UP #1943 is in the area but not on either train...    UP is apparently letting unit #4141 get all the attention.

There are some confused people on the web stream chat groups getting 9069 and 9096 mixed up and claiming all the networks are showing old footage (they claim before 1943 put on train) because they are seeing 9096 on the network footage of funeral train yet to depart and confusing it with the 9069 that passed on the lead train...

Thanks for the link - fascinating! Great PR move for UP, you can't BUY that kind of Public Relations. However, the commentators called the Engineer a Conductor, called 4141 the first "car" didn't know WHAT to call a dome car, and called the platform-obs passenger car a caboose. And after all that time, effort and expense UP expended in pulling this request off, that goofy male commentator took it upon himself to bellyache at least twice that the train was going so slow and compared it to driving time, saying it was because of the poor condition of the tracks and that they have not been fixed up for a long time, so they were restricted by the FRA to go so slow. Balderdash! I am looking at fine, signalled , welded-rail main lines, knowing the speed for freight is at least 49 and for a passenger move they could go at least ten or twenty miles per hour faster if the crossing gates are timed right. Of course the train is moving slowly, like the funeral procession that it is, and allowing for people to be able to view the casket, and presumably for the family on the train to better view the public outpouring of affection. And fergoshsakes, for SAFETY. The sheer numbers of people on a property they are unfamiliar with is astounding, just one pedestrian hit would taint the entire 2-day tribute. Goofy local news, hope the national coverage gets it closer to right. And Godspeed, Mr. President G.H.W. Bush! === === = === JLH  

Kudo's to Fox and CNN for their live coverage.Between the camera on the side of 4141 and the aerial coverage it has been great.
Kudos to George H.W. Bush and the Bush Family to ok the funeral train and more Kudos to UP for supplying the trains.

Also, look how the plexiglass is mounted flush to the carbody of the baggage car, and the custom frame surrounding it that corresponds to the lines of the flag motif . That took some expense and planning. It is not just a generic frame inset into the doorway in place of the normal baggage door. === === = === JLH

Looking at it I think the door is still there, it's just in the full open position and the insert with the plexiglass window was placed in the hole.

And he was corrected for those comments and has apologized.

My comments about the funeral train:

The good (wonderful):  No question,  from what I saw from the cab camera and from the aerial coverage of the train, the UP did a first class job of running the train.  A lot of planning went into it, and I saw a lot of UP personnel trackside--both monitoring the train and track, and being very respectful of the occasion.  It was heartening to the outpouring of respect from many of the people trackside--hands over hearts, hats off, holding American flags.  On the whole, it was somber and respectful, as it should be. 

The bad:  As usual with any special train movement, there were too many stupid people doing stupid things around active railroad tracks.  Despite all the security, etc. there were far too many people who stood too close to the track.  As veteran railroaders tell me--and this is absolutely accurate--if you are standing closer than 25' to the centerline of the track, you are almost certainly trespassing on railroad property.  If you are standing on the ballast, you are way too close to the track and are being blatantly unsafe.  I saw enough people standing on the ballast to say that is very lucky that one of such trespassers was not struck by the train.  What a horrible incident that would have been to mar the whole ceremony.  We got to hear plenty of 4141's horn, not as a greeting, but as warning to people to get clear of the track.  Undoubtely, almost zero of the news media and few non-railroaders watching the train picked up on the dangerous behavior of a (fortunately) small minority of those viewing the passage of the funeral train.
