TrainFest 2018 Road Trip Photos

Last month a friend and I made a road trip to TrainFest 2018 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and got a few photos along the way.

Photo 1: A BNSF train at Slayton, Texas doing an air test.
Photo 2: South Plains Road units at Slayton.
Photo 3: An ex-Santa Fe GP7 lettered for the Orange Port Terminal at Sweetwater, Texas.

Next day we got some decent photos of the Fort Worth & Western around Dublin, Texas.

Photo 4: 2 units are switching a train at Dublin.
Photo 5: One unit running long hood forward on the branch to Gorman.
Photo 6: Switching the mills at Gorman.

Photo 7: The old Frisco Station at Hugo, Oklahoma.
Photo 8: Dierks Lumber & Coal steamer on display at Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
Photo 9: A night shot at the Kansas City Southern Fuel Dock in Heavener. A small camera mounted flash lit up the stripes.

Photo 10: Next morning at Heavener found this BNSF coal train at the Fuel Dock in Heavener.
Photo 11: We heard on the scanner that the AOK was coming into Howe Oklahoma with 118 cars of crude oil and here it is arriving at the interchange with the KCS.
Photo 12: After swapping cars with the KCS the AOK headed back west and here it is at Wister on a wooden trestle.

After TrainFest (I didn't take any photos there) and more cloudy photos not worth posting here we are on our way back home and got some decent shots in the sun.

Photo 13: A set of Iowa Interstate units at Homestead, Iowa in the late afternoon.
Photo 14: A southbound Missouri & Northern Arkansas train at Milo, Missouri.
Photo 15: A southbound unit oil train in the early morning at Howe, Oklahoma.

Photo 16: The same train as above a few hours later working its way up the Rich Mountain grade.
Photo 17: A southbound KCS train at Howe, Oklahoma.
Photo 18: The "Dodger" (local) arriving at Heavener.

Photo 19: The recently painted KCS Veteran's Unit arriving at Heavener just before sunset.
Photo 20: Again using the small camera mounted flash to light up the stripes on a northbound train at the Fuel Dock.
Photo 21: This was the last shot of the trip.

Nice shots. When were you at Rich Mountain? The colors on the ridges look pretty nice. I've been there in the spring, but a fall trip might be interesting to me sometime.

Great group of photos!

Nice to see that the former BNSF 2504 is still alive and kicking.  It was one of the few ex-Santa Fe GP35s to keep its upper headlight, leaving the nose free from notching for a relocated one.

Here she is 11 years ago on the BNSF Pasadena Local in Glendora, CA:
