Western Railroad Discussion > There is a train at the end of the driveway again...Date: 12/12/18 15:13 There is a train at the end of the driveway again... Author: docgrommesh How cool would it be to have a crossing at the end of your driveway with your own personal gates!
I would guess if you were to move into one of these houses you must like trains. Unless your realtor scammed you...lol. "You are moving to the KC area? Yes, I have a great listing for you and you can purchase before you even look at the house!" This double mainline has on average a train every 20 minutes. Just last year they put in the gates for this person’s driveway. Not sure how long it has been a quite zone, but can you imagine having horns blaring every 20 minutes. I think I might even get tired of that, but now all is safe and quite except for the rumbling of the ground. Video is in Shawnee, KS. 6-2-18 just before a late afternoon storm rolled in. My vote for Video of the Day. Date: 12/12/18 16:55 Re: There is a train at the end of the driveway again... Author: icancmp193 These are pretty high-end McMansions too. I enjoy living about 1/2 mile from the tracks and hearing horns in the day and night. The most I have seen/heard is 9 in one day. But a train every 20 minutes might get old....
TJY Date: 12/12/18 17:00 Re: There is a train at the end of the driveway again... Author: 462pacific I noticed that there was no horn sounded at the controlled crossing. Perhaps not required or perhaps
$$$$ spoke to keep it quiet. Seems like an obvious potential disaster given time and circumstance. Date: 12/12/18 19:09 Re: There is a train at the end of the driveway again... Author: czuleget File sound footage maybe.

It is nice to hear the rumble from a few miles out in each direction even at night. Doc Date: 12/13/18 10:07 Re: There is a train at the end of the driveway again... I had to delay the sound just a little bit for the train to match the video, but thought it turned out pretty good. Doc Date: 12/13/18 10:09 Re: There is a train at the end of the driveway again... Date: 12/14/18 05:33 Re: There is a train at the end of the driveway again... Author: LX15840 Folks living in the affluent areas in the suburbs mange to arrange for funding of silent crossings, particularly Johnson County Kansas. However, as soon as you go across the county line into Wyandotte county the crossings are, for the most part, not silent. It also seems to depend on the railroad...BNSF is very willing to accommodate requests to silence crossings, other railroads not as much. Here in the Indianapolis area (CXS territory) I do not know of a single instance of a silent crossing. Also, our infrastructure here in Indiana is definitely third worldish, not likely to change any time soon, so the whistles continue to be heard here in Indiana.
