Western Railroad Discussion > Kansas City Southern 4162 leading on the Grande

On three different occasions, Kansas City Southern SD70ACe #4162 led coal trains back and forth across Union Pacific lines from Memphis TN to the Savage coal loadout located near Price, UT. 

1) The first trip of KCS #4162 on ex-Rio Grande territory was back at the end of October and on Halloween morning, I was able to catch it heading Westbound just West of Mack, CO as the train was about to enter into Ruby Canyon. I was standing above Ruby Tunnel as the Conductor gives a friendly wave from the window.

The next time that I was able to catch KCS #4162 was on the morning of November 13th as the train headed Eastbound out of Grand Jct.

2) Highballing over the East switch at Palisade past some of the grape vineyards that produce the fine local wine that is produced from this area. Mt. Garfield is behind the train.

3) Following along the Colorado River in De Beque Canyon.

4) Still on Nov. 13th, seen just East of De Beque.

5) With the Roan Cliffs providing a backdrop East of Dos.

6) On Nov. 30th, the KCS returned to Colorado once again leading and I waited for over 3 hours at Fruita for it to depart out of Grand Jct. Of course, just as the Sun was setting, it came flying through town:{
